Hi Everyone!
It's going to be quite hot these next few days according to weather reports! Consider getting in from the heat and enjoy the fun and challenge of chess over the boards in the cool coffeehouse atmosphere of our regular Starbucks venue in the Clayton Shopping Center! We meet again as we usually do every Sunday and Wednesday afternoon from 3:00 p.m. through to closing time. As an added feature, there usually is a chess puzzle to solve, and the first player to solve it on his or her first try wins a free tall Starbucks drink of choice!
Results of last Sunday's USCF-rated club tournament:
Ten players competed last Sunday, with six players (Mark L, Zachary, Daniel, Ben, Tony, and Raul) in one group; and, four players (Jacob N., Avyaan, Jacob L, and Shiven) in the second group. Each player played 3 matches. Time control was G/40;d10.
In the first group, Zachary won 1st Place honors and the top cash prize in his group, as he finished with 2 wins and 1 draw, having played very tough matches against Tony, Mark, and Daniel! Mark and Ben tied for 2nd Place, with each having won two matches and thereby splitting the 2nd and 3rd Place cash prizes!
All results of the first group's matches have been turned into the USCF and have been validated. The players' adjusted ratings should be available soon if not as of this writing, as the results have been officially validated.
In the second group, a Quad, it was Jacob N. who took 1st Place honors and the top cash prize; and, it was Jacob L. who won 2nd Place and its cash prize. (In Quads prizes go only to the1st and 2nd Place winners.)
Our next club tournament may be scheduled for Sunday, October 25th. Stay tuned for all the details. Expect 4 rounds, and the time control will be be G/30;d.5 for that event.
